Flowers in Albania
|
Flowers have long been admired and used by humans, mainly to beautify their environment but also as a source of food.
Their cultivation in the history of humankind is linked to the establishment of gardens, whose creation belongs in ancient times.
Thanks to the diversity of climate, you'll find a variety of flowers in Albania with around 3200 different kinds. Many of them are used for creating different fragrances or for medicinal purposes.
Apart from their unique names, Albanian flowers are also very beautiful, such as "zambaku" that grows in Lure, Mali me Gropa, Martanesh, Llogara, etc.. It has very unique and beautiful orange petals that seem to come out of a "rock's smile".
When discovered it was called "Lilium Albanicum", which in Albanian translates -"zambaku shqiptar".
We have a tradition of love and cultivation of flowers, and it has been inherited generation after generation.
Our ancestors expresses their love of flowers in their everyday life. You can find drawings on ceramics, stone carvings, wood, iron, bronze, silver, their national costumes, carpeting etc, etc.
Because of their varied and colorful appearance, they have long been a favorite subject of our traditional visual artists as well. Some of the most celebrated paintings from well-known Albanian painters are paintings of flowers.
Their courtyards were always rich with roses, violet, lilies, tulips, gladiolus, carnations, ficuses and many more.
Albanians love of flowers is also expressed in many beautiful folk-songs that are passed on generation after generation.
It is this tradition of love for nature and all the beautiful and unique flowers that surround them, that inspired the idea of creating Dhurata.com and the possibility of sending flowers to Albania in just a few keystrokes.
